You may remember a post I wrote about a quilt I rescued for $10. Hand pieced, hand quilted, good to very good condition–it was a great find. Well…I’ve just been one-upped!
My mother-in-law gave me the most lovely antique quilt for my birthday this year. She found it at an antique store, in a stall with other, “lesser” quilts marked at a higher price. It was a find, to be sure!
I love the fan block and the way the colors complement each other so nicely. The hand stitching is nicely done and it is in pristine condition. My very favorite part is that the plain fabric around the fans and on the back is grey! Most often I see white or cream (which, don’t get me wrong, that’s good too) but the grey is just something special.
I love it! I promptly hung it up on my quilt display rack in our master bedroom. It makes me smile every time I look at it. I love the idea of treasuring something that another person put lots of love and time and effort into–even if I never knew them. I can only hope that someone will do the same for my creations when I’m long gone.
