Knitting Goals

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope your 2016 has gotten off to a marvelous start!  We had a very low key celebration at home with champagne and staying up till midnight (which is when we usually go to bed anyway).

I'm pretty bad about making and keeping New Year's resolutions.  It's easy to start out with the very best of intentions, but I always get derailed sooner than I'd like to admit.  I've decided to add "resolutions" gradually to my routine over the course of several weeks, so as not to overwhelm myself.  I definitely need to adopt some healthier habits, but starting out cold turkey isn't my cup of tea.  So each week I'm adding two new, small goals to incorporate into my routine.  Week 1 is "Eat more oatmeal" and "Go to bed by 11pm".  Easy, right?

But I digress...this is a knitting goal post ;)  Next week I'll share my 2016 Designing Goals, but I also wanted to share the list of knitting patterns I'd like to find time to make for myself.  It's so relaxing to work from someone else's pattern, and I love learning new techniques and ways of saying things that I have never thought of before.  Also (I can't believe I'm committing this to the Interwebs...) I'm on a Stash Diet for 2016.  If you don't have yarn coming out of your ears, you might not know this term, but it means that a knitter has decided to STOP BUYING YARN for a goes hand in hand with Stash Guilt.  It seems like a rather common theme that keeps cropping up with many of my knitting friends...

So with that being said...I already have yarn for all of the patterns in my Queue.  (And also lots more yarn).  Here goes!  My overly ambitious list of Want-To-Knits for 2016:

Tales from the Isle of Purbeck by Annie Rowden in Knit Picks Gloss DK, Velveteen (I'm late to the party :/)
Dotted Rays by Steven West in ...something gorgeous--I have plenty of fingering weight skeins to pick from
Seasmoke by Laura Aylor in Knit Picks Hawthorne Sport, Sellwood

BlueSand Cardigan by La Maison Rililie in Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Sport, Mink, Ash & Sagebrush
Larch Cardigan by Amy Christoffers in (discontinued...boohoo!) Valley Yarns Northampton Sport, Lake Heather
Contented Cardi by Hannah Fetig in Knit Picks Comfy Worsted Heather Special Reserve, Porter Heather
Grandfather Vest by Veronik Avery in Classic Elite Lush

Simple Beret by Hannah Fetig in Madeline Tosh TML, Faded Calico

For the Kiddos:
Sunday Sweater by Ginny Sheller in Cascade Yarns Eco Alpaca
Aibhie's Hat by Ginny Sheller in Cascade Yarns Eco Alpaca
Fold by Wondrlanding in Universal Yarn Uptown Baby Sport
Colin by Gabrielle Danskknit in Berroco Vintage

Phew!  Before I started designing, that would probably take me through April...but now?  This seems really, really ambitious.  I am interested in knitting myself a few more sweaters, which of course is a big time commitment, but I look forward to some "mindless knitting" where someone else has already done all the math and I have but to follow where they lead me!

Wishing you all the best in your endeavors this year!  If you're a knitter--what are some of your project goals for 2016?  Non-knitters--what are you going to be working on?  I'd love it if you'd leave a comment and share!
