Naming Contest

IMG_6187 Hi Yarn Alongers!  How are your projects coming along this week?  I love seeing the great outpouring of work, talent and creativity that is shared here–it’s so inspiring!

I could use a little inspiration just now.  I’m nearly finished with this new design for an aran weight chunky lace work hat with seed stitch details and fun (optional) pompoms.  But as I sat down to write up the pattern, I got stuck on the title!  I just can’t seem to work it out.  Most of the time, a name will just come to me–either from the design itself or maybe a little nod to the yarn base or colorway, but I’m just not feeling anything on this one.

I would love it if you’d share a suggestion with me!  Leave your thoughts in the comments, and if I use the name you’ve suggested in the final pattern, I’ll gladly send you a complimentary copy of the finished pattern so you can knit your own 🙂  The lace pattern doesn’t have any specific name, but it reminds me of pine trees or arrows or chevrons…so maybe that’s a jumping off point? Thank you in advance for your ideas! I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Also, if you’d like to help test knit this design, I’ll be putting out a call for testers on Thursday.  You’ll need less than 100g of heavy worsted/aran weight yarn for any of the three sizes (this is Malabrigo Worsted) and Sz 8 needles.  You can join my Call For Testers newsletter here to get full details and info about signing up later this week!

(Also, I’ve been playing around with this logo design to use on business cards, apply as a watermark to pics, and put into patterns.  I’d love to hear what you think?)

This week, I’ve picked Letters from Honeyhill back up for a bit of light reading.

  1. Tree Farm
    Straight Shooter

That’s all I got tonite. I’ll keep thinking…I have some lace knitting to do–I can think on the purl rows 😉

  2. The hats do resemble little bears and the idea of trees made me think off the song The Teddy Bear’s Picnic and the first line “If you go out on the woods today you’re in fir a big surprise…” So my suggestion is Teddy in the Woods or Teddy’s Picnic. However this may be too close to CraftyCoolBeans idea to count as an independent entry.

  3. Before I even read your jumping off points I thought that of the name Forester or Forest Hat because that is what it looks like to me. Since the pom-poms are optional, I didn’t think they should contribute to the title. Incidentally, this is a really pretty pattern.

  4. Wow these hats are gorgeous! I’m totally seeing trees as well, so Way Through the Woods would be my name vote! Please to have discovered your blog through the yarn along! 🙂

  5. I immediately thought of Goldilocks and the Three Bears – so maybe the Three Bears hat? Especially if the sizing runs from little kids through adults. No matter what, this is a great pattern!

  6. I love the logo.

For the hat, when I first saw it, I thought of the Ewoks. So, maybe Ewok or something with that in the name. Of course my husband did just describe them as Lucus’ furry abominations when I double checked with him on the spelling. (Yah me. I had it right.) Cute pattern. Good luck with the naming.
