Happy Birthday!

I don’t usually make a big deal about birthdays (especially mine) but I thought it might be a fun change of pace!  I hope you won’t think me too conceited 😉

I have so much to be thankful for this year, and such wonderful things to look forward to in the coming year.  As I mentioned a few weeks ago, my mom was diagnosed with kidney cancer in October, underwent surgery, all in a matter of 10 days, and is now cancer free and recovering brilliantly!  My daughter started preschool this year, and much to everyone’s surprise, she loves it so much and doesn’t even mind being away from me twice a week!  My son is doing very well in first grade where he seems to know everyone in the whole school (he’s such a social butterfly!) and has started basketball with a really excellent youth league.  And my husband just accepted an excellent new job in Kansas City, so we’re currently in the middle of relocating there!  My best friend from college and her family live in the area, so I’m so excited that we’ll be getting to see more of them very soon!

My designing endeavors have been very fruitful this past year too–I have hit the 20 pattern mark of self-published designs on Ravelry, 12 of which are also available on the Knit Picks website along with the yarn they call for.  I had my very first 3rd party pattern published recently in Interweave’s new book Garter Stitch Revival.  (You can purchase the digital download now, and print copies will be available early next year–my contribution is called Be True Fingerless Mitts).  I also have two more published designs coming out next year–one with Knit Picks Publishing and another with a big yarn company!

I started creating stitch markers over the summer and was so excited to be able to sell them in partnership with my local yarn shop – McKinney Knittery during the DFW Yarn Crawl event in August and again at STITCHES, TX in September.  Ginger has even started carrying some of my printed patterns, which is still extremely exciting to see when I go to our weekly knitting circle at the shop!  And I was invited to be a part of the DFW Designers Collection (my pattern Featheround is the featured knit along for January!)

It’s been such a fantastic year; it’s almost hard to believe that next year could be even better!  We’re so excited for the new adventure we’re going to be embarking on, and I can’t wait to share all about it with you here!

The Next Beautiful Thing

My sweet friend Carolyn Macpherson, who is herself a knitting designer and podcaster of The Next Beautiful Thing, graciously invited me for an “interview” on her podcast (and let me choose today, as it’s my birthday!)  You can hear all about it on her latest episode, and we even got together to do a couple of fun promotions!  She’ll be announcing the details of a stitch marker giveaway in her podcast, so tune in for that, as well as a coupon code that’s good for all of my self-published designs–even e-books!

In honor of this, my 33rd birthday, you can take 33% off all of my self-published designs on Ravelry – even the e-books – by using coupon code HAPPY33 now through January 15, 2017.  (Featheround and Be True Fingerless Mitts are not eligible at this time)  Thank you so much for helping me celebrate!

Best wishes to you during this season of gratitude!

  1. Great job Jennie, Happy Birthday, and how exciting about your move. Kansas City is a great city and has amazing bbq. Love you dear

  2. Happy Birthday and welcome to Kansas City. While I don’t live and haven’t lived in the city it has been my go to”City” for 8 years. I love it for shopping, doctors, culture, and travel. (Southwest Airlines is a favorite.) There are several nice yarn stores and Lawrence and the Yarn Barn isn’t too far. Hope you and yours have a reasonably hassle free transition. And here’s hoping for a reasonably easy winter to let you settle in.
